How Northgate Academy Prepares Students For Colleges & Beyond

Online students at Northgate Academy graduate with a solid foundation in their Christian beliefs and academic knowledge, but these are only the most obvious benefits that attending an online Christian academy offers. Online students are also preparing themselves for life after high school through some aspects of their schooling that you might have missed.

We are committed to providing our students with an exceptional education that not only prepares them for success in college but also equips them with the skills and knowledge to excel in their future careers. We understand that the transition from high school to college and beyond can be daunting, which is why we offer a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on academic rigor, critical thinking, and real-world experience. Our goal is to ensure that every student who graduates is well-prepared for the challenges of higher education and the ever-changing demands of the modern workforce.

In this blog post, we will explore the various ways in which Northgate Academy helps prepare our students for college and beyond. From advanced placement courses and dual enrollment programs, our school offers a range of resources and support to help students succeed. Whether you are a current student or a parent, we invite you to read on and discover what makes our school so special!

Professional Communication Skills

Any adult working today knows the value of good professional communication skills, but they can also probably remember a few stumbling blocks they faced on their way to learning this skill. Northgate students have to learn how to communicate clearly and effectively in order to work with their instructors and staff members.

Being an online students means that most communication is done through email or online chat. This skill immediately translates to life beyond high school. Whether NGA students are heading off to college or are joining the job force, professional communication skills will be expected and useful, so the practice students get from working with their instructors online will be valuable right away.

Self-Advocacy

Many in-person students get used to being followed around by instructors and checked up on repeatedly throughout their class periods. In fact, in-person academics today often enables students to be passive learners while the instructors and family members put more effort into students’ work than they do! When it comes to online learning, students have to learn to advocate for themselves. NGA students have plenty of support along the way through online chat, email, one-on-one tutoring, and an academic support staff ready to help. However, if they’re struggling with information in a class, they have to be the one to reach out to an adult for help; there is no teacher looking over their shoulder all day. Our students learn to advocate for themselves ensuring that they won’t get left behind in college or beyond.

Independent Study Skills

Because of the large amount of freedom online students experience, they also learn to be independent learners. They learn about their own learning style rather than whatever style their peers prefer and are more successful at. They also have to set up their own times to review and find the motivation to study. When they leave for college, no one is going to be dragging them along to study sessions, so understanding the importance of independent study is essential to their future success.

Our online students also become excellent note-takers, especially since they are allowed to take whatever style of notes works best for them. Their ability to break down information presented to them in their own style of notes is going to be a wonderful advantage to them moving forward.

Accountability

When it comes to accountability, online students have another significant advantage over other learners. Because they are accountable for their own time management, they have to learn how to self-motivate and adapt based on their own individual academic needs. Being accountable for their own learning builds strong fortitude and self-awareness that they’ll be thankful for throughout their lives.

A Bright Future

With all of these advantages, Northgate students graduate with the solid foundation necessary to grow as individuals, tackle their goals, and face all the exciting experiences waiting for them in life. They’re prepared for the path God has laid out before them and all the challenges and adventures life will throw their way.

Maybe you just don’t share the values taught at the public schools. We have athletes, performers, military and ex-pats students; as well as international students that have chosen to earn an American, accredited high school diploma online.
