How Many Classes Do I Have To Take?

How many classes you need to take will depend on how many credits (if any) you have to transfer in from another accredited school and what you plan to do after you graduate.

If you have high school credits from another school, but you haven’t yet requested that your transcripts be sent to Northgate, you can use the Previous Records Request form to notify your previous school that you want them to do this. Fill out the form, send it to your previous school, and they should send us your records. However, many schools give students the chance to request this online, so check with your previous school to see what their individual process requires.

If you already know what courses you’ve taken in the past, you can use our Course Planning Guide to help you determine the number of classes you need to take in the future.

In order to graduate from Northgate Academy, all students have to take 1 of each core class (English, History, Math, Science) and 2 electives.

Our basic graduation requirements are as follows:

  • 4 English credits
  • 3 Math credits
  • 3 Science credits
  • 3.5 Social Studies credits
  • 8 elective credits.

However, if you plan to attend a college right after high school, you might want to consider adding some more specific requirements to your diploma track as indicated below:

  • 4 English credits
  • 4 Math credits
  •  3-4 Science credits
  •  3.5-4 Social Studies credits
  • 2 International Language credits
  • 6 elective credits
