Online Homeschooling in Indiana

Homeschooling in Indiana has one primary form of homeschooling, and the requirements are very lax. Students can be homeschooled between the ages of 7 and 18, and around 10% of all students are in homeschool in the state.

All homeschooling is non-accredited and will be considered to have a private school status.

However, all students must:

• Receive all of their instructions in the English language
• Be taught for 180 days or the same number of days that are taught in public schools
• Keep strict attendance records that must be available on request by the state

If Indiana’s Department of Education requests information on the number of students that are being taught at home, this information must be provided.

Independent & Supported Learners

The next thing to consider is whether or not homeschooling is right for your teen. In order to determine this, it’s important to understand that not all students excel in a less monitored homeschool environment, so it’s important to tailor the program you use to their needs.  Some teens learn very well independently but still need a variety of curriculum and a deadline, and homeschooling ends up being a place where they can excel. Others need a little more guidance, so setting them up in a more monitored system might be a better option. You can plan interactive educational experiences, plan trips to visit family and friends around the country, or just get to know your growing, changing child a little better.
