As a current online high school student, you may be wondering how to succeed and make the most out of your educational experience. Well, who better to offer advice than past graduates who have been in your shoes? We reached out to several Northgate Academy graduates and asked them to share their tips for success. From time management to staying motivated, here are some valuable tips from those who have already completed their online school journey.

We asked past graduates from Northgate Academy to share their top tips for success, and here’s what they had to say:

Create A Schedule

Just because the programs at Northgate Academy are self-paced doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try to schedule out your schoolwork. One of the best parts about online classes is the flexibility it gives students to explore their personal interests while still getting a good education.

Create a schedule that works for you and stick to it. That means dedicating certain times of the day to your studies, just like you would if you were attending a physical school. Don’t let the comfort of home prevent you from acting as if you are still going to class everyday.

This will help you stay on track and avoid falling behind. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun too! Include activities in your schedule that you look forward to!

Stay Organized

With online learning, it’s easy to lose track of assignments and deadlines. Keep a planner or calendar to help you stay organized and make sure you don’t miss any important tasks. Set reminders for yourself and prioritize your assignments based on their due dates. It’s also helpful to keep all of your course materials and notes in one place, whether that be a physical notebook or a digital folder. This will make it easier for you to study and review for exams. Staying organized will not only help you stay on top of your workload but also reduce stress and anxiety.

Keep Trying & Make Multiple Attempts

At Northgate Academy, students are given the opportunity to retake quizzes and tests, as well as resubmit essays. This is a great feature because it allows students to learn from their mistakes and improve their grades. It also takes away the pressure of getting everything perfect on the first try. If you didn’t do well on a quiz or test, don’t get discouraged! Take advantage of the chance to try again and strive for success. The ability to resubmit essays is also helpful because you can receive feedback from your teachers and make revisions before turning in your final draft. Remember, the goal is to learn and grow, and Northgate Academy provides the tools and resources to help you achieve that.

It’s important to take breaks throughout the day to minimize burnout and maintain focus. Take a walk, listen to music, or do something else that relaxes you. Just make sure you come back to your studies feeling refreshed and ready to learn.

DO NOT Procrastinate

Procrastination can be tempting in self-paced online classes because there’s no set schedule or specific due dates. However, it’s important to resist this urge and stay on track with your coursework. When you procrastinate, you’re setting yourself up for unnecessary stress and potential failure. If you wait until the last minute to complete assignments, you may not have enough time to fully understand the material or ask for help if needed. This can result in lower grades and a decrease in overall academic performance.

In addition, procrastination can cause a snowball effect where one missed assignment leads to another and another. Before you know it, you’re falling behind and struggling to catch up. This can be overwhelming and demotivating. To avoid this, it’s important to create a schedule and stick to it. Break down your assignments into manageable chunks and set realistic deadlines for yourself. By staying organized and proactive, you’ll be able to maintain a steady pace and achieve success in your online high school classes.
