When you enroll your student in Northgate Academy’s flexible online Christian academic programs, you’ve found a program that helps them explore their faith and deepen their relationship with Christ. However, that’s not all we offer. You will also find that our programs stretch your student’s independence and critical thinking skills while they practice responsibility and accountability in a safe environment. Our accredited high school academics prepare your students for whatever goals they have after graduation: college, work, or military service.

Student Choice

One of the main benefits of Northgate Academy’s programs is that your student gets some agency about how they address their learning. This self-directed learning comes in the form of a whole lot of family/student choice. You can decide how long your student spends each day working on their classes and whether they spend a longer amount of time for fewer days or less time for more days.

Additionally, your student gets to decide if they want to work on their courses a few at a time or all at once. Some students focus far better and feel less anxious when they get to decide what their school days look like. Even the best students appreciate the chance to have some agency over their school day. Your child might work best in the early morning, while another child excels when they work in the afternoons or evenings.

School choice is student choice, and when you enroll in a flexible online school, then you have a lot more choice about your student’s academic life. In fact, because there is so much less time wasted in online school than during in-person school, your student can even explore additional interests. They have time to work on project-based learning tailored to their interests, volunteer or participate in mission work, work a part time job, or explore their hobbies and talents at a deeper level.

Critical Thinking

Northgate Academy students also have plenty of opportunities to hone their problem-solving skills. Our programs naturally encourage students to explore and practice good organizational strategies as they determine their schedule and how much time they need to spend on each of their courses each day. The NGA’s program flexibility provides you and your student with a chance to sit down and practice setting up a calendar and laying down realistic goals to make sure they are on track academically.

Our programs also leave plenty of time for creativity, an important skill for students to explore as they learn critical thinking skills. Having the chance to participate in music or art is an important part of exploring who God intends your child to be. When they have a gift, having the time to improve that gift and use it for its intended purpose is a valuable use of their time and will help them become a well-rounded individual.

Accountability

Self-directed learning also means being able to take accountability for their own choices when it comes to their learning and academic progress. Students at Northgate have constant access to their grades and are provided with immediate feedback for most of their assignments.

Because they are allowed to use notes on their assessments and attempt their quizzes and tests multiple times, your students can take the time to review their notes, add to them, and make sure that they truly understand the content before they take the assessment over again. They are accountable for the amount of effort they make before retaking any quiz or test.

Students are also allowed to resubmit their essays after they receive feedback. Students have the chance to re-write, revise, or edit their work for a better score. Because they are given multiple attempts, they have the chance to demonstrate that they have mastery over the topics and writing style for each written assessment.

Overall, Northgate Academy strives to set your student up for whatever they want to pursue in the future. Whether they are college bound, headed to the workforce or mission field, or preparing to sign up for military service, NGA graduates leave us with a solid Biblical background and strong academic foundation on which to build their futures.
