Northgate Academy Accreditation & Recognition
Northgate Academy is regionally and nationally accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED) and by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA CESS). In December 2025, the Cognia Global Commission awarded Excel Education Systems, including Northgate Academy, the status of Accredited with Distinction, the highest of Cognia’s four accreditation statuses. Accreditation is how colleges, employers, and the military confirm that a diploma comes from a school held to recognized standards.

Our Accreditations
Northgate Academy holds accreditation from Cognia and from MSA CESS. Each agency reviews a school against published standards and renews that status on a fixed cycle, which is what makes accreditation a current credential rather than a one-time award.
- Cognia Accreditation: Cognia (formerly AdvancED) accredits more than 40,000 institutions in over 100 countries and territories. Its Engagement Review assigns one of four statuses, and Northgate Academy holds the highest of them, Accredited with Distinction. We have been accredited by Cognia since June 2018. - MSA CESS Accreditation: Northgate Academy earned accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools on November 4, 2022, and our current term runs through January 1, 2030. Holding both regional and national accreditation means two separate agencies have reviewed the school against their own standards. Northgate Academy also holds recognition at the state level. State agencies and receiving schools often check that standing when they evaluate a transcript, which is why we list the record for each state below.
- Minnesota: Northgate Academy is a Minnesota State Registered High School, operating within the Excel Education Systems independent school system. Northgate Academy is an A+ rated BBB Accredited Business. Accreditation with the Better Business Bureau requires an organization to meet and uphold the standards for trust and service that the BBB sets, and Northgate Academy is committed to that standard. View our BBB profile.
Our National School CEEB code is 240003. Northgate Academy students are eligible to sit for the AP, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, and ACT exams, and results are sent to the Northgate Academy counseling office. We also receive College Board accommodations for students with disabilities, as well as SAT and ACT publications.
Northgate Academy is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). ACSI serves roughly 2,200 member schools in the United States and more than 3,400 worldwide, and reaches an additional 25,000 Christian schools through its services and resources. ACSI membership is not accreditation. We list it because it reflects the community our school belongs to, while our accreditation comes from Cognia and MSA CESS.
Endorsed for Responsible AI in Learning
Northgate Academy is part of Excel Education Systems, the parent organization of our school. In August 2024 the Middle States Association awarded Excel Education Systems the Responsible AI in Learning (RAIL) endorsement in AI Literacy, Safety and Ethics, as one of RAIL’s Founding Fifty. The review examined practices, program, infrastructure, governance, and culture, and the endorsement applies across the Excel Education Systems schools, Northgate Academy included.

Excel High School offers flexible, accredited online programs for grades 6-12 and adult learners. With self-paced courses and affordable tuition, Excel High School helps students reach their academic goals at their own pace.
Northgate Academy
