Setting your priorities as a high school student, you might feel pulled in a bunch of different directions: friends, parents, siblings, pets, your job, and school work. If you’re attending an online Christian school, then part of your priorities probably includes learning about God’s Word. At Northgate Academy, we can’t tell you how to balance all of your relationships and responsibilities. However, one thing we can take off your shoulders is helping you learning about God’s Word and, in doing so, growing in your knowledge and relationship with Him.
We’ve got some unique courses to help you build the solid foundation you need as you prepare to head off to college, the military, or the workforce. Even students who aren’t enrolled full-time at NGA can take these classes to deepen their understanding of the Bible and better prepare themselves for modern adult life. Although our list of optional electives is pretty extensive, here are just a few that you might want to consider.
Life Management Under God
This class provides guidance about how to navigate everyday life following Biblical principles. Along with real-life scenarios that show the positives and negatives of various decisions, this course will guide you with tips about how to relate to others, how to prepare for marriage, and how to take responsibility for your own actions. That’s a lot of essential guidance! But that’s not all; this course will also help you keep yourself healthy and safe by training you about developing balanced living habits and providing you tips about being successful on the job.
Health in a Christian Perspective
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Healthy body, healthy mind”? There’s a bit of truth to that. If you’re taking care of your body, then you’ll have an easier time keeping tabs on your mental, emotional, and spiritual health as well. This course works on your spiritual and physical health by teaching you how to get and keep yourself healthy and fit, how to implement good personal safety practices, and how to prevent disease. Along with giving you motivation and knowledge about how to avoid drug use, this class also teaches you the skills you need to make sure you’re pursuing healthy relationships as well. When you’re out on your own, you won’t always have supportive people immediately available to guide you, so taking a class like this will give you the background knowledge to take positive and appropriate action for yourself.
Bible Doctrines
Not only is it important to prepare yourself with knowledge about how to keep your physical body safe, but you also are going to need to know how to “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you.” In other words, you want to be able to explore and communicate the “why” of your faith. This course covers nine doctrinal areas: the Bible, God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, Man, Salvation, the Church, Angels, and the end times. Upon completion of this course, you will have a thorough understanding about what God’s Word says about each of these areas as covered in scripture.
Jesus and His Followers
If you want to deepen your understanding of who Jesus is and the promise He has given you through His birth, death, and resurrection, then this is the class for you. From His birth to His resurrection and ascension, this course takes you through detailed accounts of the events in Jesus’s life, connecting them to the important Christ-centered principles around which you want to build your life. By the end of the coursework, you’ll have a clearer understanding of the ultimate role model: the son of God.
